- When you email or telephone us
- From service providers who process technical data on our instructions (for example hosting or security tooling)
Why we use personal data and legal bases
- To provide and maintain ExampleName, including displaying content and remembering essential preferences — legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR)
- To keep the site secure, prevent abuse and diagnose faults — legitimate interests
- To measure aggregated traffic and improve the site where you have accepted optional analytics — consent (Article 6(1)(a))
- To respond to enquiries, press requests and correction notices — legitimate interests and, where relevant, contractual steps you ask us to take
- To meet legal obligations such as responding to lawful requests from regulators or courts — legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c))
Where we rely on legitimate interests, we balance those interests against your rights. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests; see “Your rights” below.

Some suppliers may store or access data outside the United Kingdom. Where that happens, we use an appropriate transfer mechanism such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or an adequacy decision recognised under UK law.
Retention
- Server and security logs: typically up to 12 months, unless a longer period is needed to investigate an incident
