Cookie policy
How ExampleName uses cookies and similar technologies under PECR and UK GDPR.
ExampleName is operated by Example LTD. This cookie policy explains what cookies and similar technologies we use, why we use them, and how you can control them. It should be read with our privacy policy.
In the United Kingdom, cookies and similar technologies are regulated by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) as well as the UK GDPR. Non-essential cookies require consent. Essential cookies that are strictly necessary to provide a service you request do not.
What cookies and similar technologies are
Cookies are small text files stored on your device by a website. We may also use local storage, session storage and similar browser features for preferences. In this policy, “cookies” includes those similar technologies unless we say otherwise.
How we ask for consent
When you first visit ExampleName, a banner lets you Accept or Decline non-essential cookies. Your choice is stored locally so we do not ask on every page load. Essential storage used to remember that choice is required for the preference to work.
You can clear site data in your browser settings to reset the banner. Declining does not stop you reading articles; it only prevents optional analytics from running.
Cookies and storage we use
| Name / key | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
physorg_cookie_consent | Essential (local storage) | Stores whether you accepted or declined cookies so the banner does not reappear every visit | Until you clear site data |
| Optional analytics cookies | Analytics (only if Accept) | Aggregated page-view and performance measurement to improve ExampleName. Not set if you Decline | As configured by the analytics tool (typically session to 24 months) |
Categories explained
- Essential — required for security, network transmission or to remember your consent choice. These do not require consent under PECR.
- Analytics — help us understand how the site is used in aggregate. We only enable these after Accept.
- Advertising / marketing cookies — we do not currently set third-party advertising cookies for behavioural targeting on this site. If that changes, we will update this policy and seek consent where required.
Third parties
If analytics are enabled after consent, a processor may set or read cookies on our behalf under a data processing arrangement. Hosting and content delivery providers may process technical logs as described in the privacy policy. We do not allow third parties to use cookies on ExampleName for their own independent marketing without your consent.
How to control cookies in your browser
Most browsers let you block or delete cookies. Controls typically sit under Settings → Privacy / Cookies. Blocking all cookies may affect site features that rely on essential storage, including remembering your consent choice.
- You can clear local storage for this site to see the consent banner again
- You can use private browsing modes, which often discard cookies when the window closes
- Device-level tracking controls (for example “Limit Ad Tracking”) may also affect some technologies
Do Not Track
There is no consistent industry standard for responding to Do Not Track browser signals. We honour the choice you make on our cookie banner.
Updates
We may update this cookie policy when our tools or legal requirements change. The “Last updated” date at the top shows the latest version.
